Texas Pride & History
As Texans, we take a special pride in our state's rich history and unique culture. Senator Hutchison's Texas roots run deep. Thomas Rusk of Nacogdoches was the first Texan to hold the U.S. Senate seat she currently occupies. He and Senator Hutchison's great-great-grandfather, Charles S. Taylor, were friends and both signed the Texas Declaration of Independence.
Texas is the largest state in the continental United States, and with more than 23.5 million citizens, it is the second most populous state. For more information about Texas facts and history, visit this State of Texas website.
