Education
One of the most important gifts we can give to our children and grandchildren is a quality education. Education is the key that unlocks the door to opportunity and is critical in preparing the next generation for an increasingly competitive global economy. With so much at stake in Virginia and across the country, I will continue working in Congress to pass legislation to enable our state and local communities to better target their resources to best serve the needs of their students. I look forward to continuing to receive input from teachers, principals, local and state administrators, and parents as we work to further strengthen our education system.
Actions
-
Mandates from bureaucrats in Washington continue to be a disaster for our education system and that is why I am a strong supporter of the State and Local Funding Flexibility Act (H.R. 2445), which puts local and state education administrators in control of how federal funds for elementary and secondary education programs are spent in their school districts.
-
I am a cosponsor of H. Res. 474, which recognizes the valuable contributions community colleges make in revitalizing, inspiring, and training this country's workforce.
-
States and institutions have a shared responsibility to help make college more affordable. The Education and the Workforce Committee, of which I am a member, has held several hearings to highlight efforts to curb costs and reduce the student debt burden.
