Transparency and Accountability at the Federal Reserve

Last week, I signed onto H.R. 4180, the Sound Dollar Act of 2012. This legislation would reduce the Federal Reserve’s growing reach into our economy, which has ballooned by almost $1.5 trillion since 2008. This bill would promote more transparency and accountability at the Fed and prevent it from bailing out struggling companies that get in over their heads. As our economy begins the long road to recovery, the best thing Congress can do to help job creators is keep the government out of their businesses. I will continue to support legislation like the Sound Dollar Act that reduces federal government regulations and allows the private sector to grow.

Citizen Cosponsor Project

The House Majority Leader’s office recently launched the Citizen Cosponsor Project. Through Facebook, this feature allows anyone to become a “cosponsor” of legislation in the House of Representatives that they care about. This is a great way to keep up with issues that are important to you, such as the repeal of Obamacare, the Homes for Heroes Act or the JOBS Act. It is also an important way to let us know where you stand on certain issues. Visit the Majority Leader’s website and become a citizen cosponsor, and let me know about it by sending me an email.

Defender of Liberty Award

Recently, I was honored to receive the American Conservative Union’s Defender of Liberty Award on behalf of the 19th District of Texas. This award is given to Members of Congress who are committed to defending our nation’s Constitution, and dedicated to the conservative values that we hold dear in West Texas. I will continue to protect the U.S. Constitution and seek ways to disperse power from Washington and guard personal liberties.
