Congressman Flake Applauds Passage of Bill to Repeal Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB)

Legislation Repeals Provision of Obamacare

Washington, D.C. , Mar 22 - Republican Congressman Jeff Flake, who represents Arizona’s Sixth District, today applauded the passage of H.R. 5, the Protecting Access to Healthcare (PATH) Act, which repeals the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB) enacted in the Obamacare legislation two years ago this week. Congressman Flake is a cosponsor of similar legislation to repeal IPAB.

Obamacare stipulated that IPAB consist of 15 non-elected bureaucrats appointed by the President. The board was given unprecedented authority as an “independent” federal entity to cut Medicare spending with only token input from Congress, and without judicial review.

“IPAB is one of Obamacare’s most onerous provisions but is hardly the only one,” said Flake.  “I’m pleased that the House has moved to repeal IPAB but, ultimately, Obamacare needs to be repealed completely.”

Congressman Flake is part of a lawsuit filed by Arizona’s Goldwater Institute challenging the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and the constitutionality of IPAB. He continues to work to repeal Obamacare completely.
