WASHINGTON – Rep. George Miller (D-Calif.), the senior Democratic member of the House Education and the Workforce Committee, issued the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today the United States economy added 184,000 private-sector jobs in October, marking the 32nd straight month of private-sector job growth or more than 5.4 million jobs.

 

George, as the Co-Chair fo the Steering and Policy Committee, held a hearing in Washington on Tuesday, Oct 2nd on the Democratic committment to protecting medicare and the devestating effects the Ryan-Republican budget would have on middle class families. Yesterday George met with Diana Paniagua and Carmen Curry, youth members of the Conservation Corps North Bay who live in the Bay Area. The Conservation Corps engage youth between the ages of 16 and 24 in service, education, job training and mentorship.

Diana and Carmen thanked George for his support of Conversation Corps, Youthbuild, and other federal programs that support young people successfully complete high school, advance to college or trade school, and obtain the skills needed to secure a good job. 

Job training for Contra Costans will be funded by an unprecedented $14.9 million competitive grant championed by Rep. George Miller

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Rep. George Miller (D-CA) praised a major new grant being awarded today to Bay Area community colleges to provide innovative job training services for area workers.  The U.S. Department of Labor is issuing a $14.9 million grant to a consortium of local community colleges led by the Contra Costa Community College District.  The money comes from a program that Miller helped write into law in 2010.

Democrats’ Make It In America plan is based on the belief that when more products are made in America, more families will be able to Make It In America. The plans is intended to create the conditions to help American businesses produce goods here, innovate here, and create jobs here; it includes many of the investments necessary for America to out-educate, out-innovate, and out-build its international competitors. President Obama has already signed ten Make It In America bills into law, many of which won bipartisan support.

Washington, D.C.  -- Rep. George Miller (D- Martinez) said today he was very disappointed that the House of Representatives blocked a Democratic plan to protect tax cuts for middle class families and warned that taxes for the middle class are likely to go up next year if Republicans in Congress refuse to compromise.   

 

Washington, DC – The City of Vallejo received a $1.15 million federal boost for ongoing downtown revitalization and economic development projects, Rep. George Miller (CA-07) and Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-01) announced today. The funds will be used for the City’s downtown streetscape project that is helping to revitalize downtown Vallejo.
