    CEOs of more than 80 big American corporations voiced support today for a comprehensive, bipartisan deficit reduction plan in a joint statement organized by the bipartisan Fix the Debt campaign.     Panetta: Hampton Roads 'critical' to national defense
    Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta says the Hampton Roads region is a great example of the committed community partnerships that keep the American military the strongest in the world. The Pentagon chief traveled to Norfolk at Senator Warner’s request on Friday to speak to members of the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce.

    Crowdfunding a Startup
    “Crowdfunding has the potential to not only change the way that startup businesses access capital, but to allow entrepreneurs to create and keep jobs in places like Danville or Roanoke,” Senator Warner said today in Arlington at the first of a series of events that he’s holding to help Virginia entrepreneurs better understand how crowdfunding can be a tool for business growth.

    On the Road: Roanoke
    Senator Warner stopped by the Virginia Economic Developers Association fall conference yesterday afternoon in Roanoke to deliver a keynote speech on deficit reduction and job creation. He thanked the economic developers for their hard work for the Commonwealth, and remarked that when he was Governor, he felt that his job was "economic developer in chief."

    Sen. Warner Announces $4.9M for Veterans Cemeteries in Virginia
    The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has awarded nearly $5 million for operations at state veterans cemeteries in Amelia County and the city of Suffolk, U.S. Sen. Mark R. Warner announced today. The V-A awarded $3.3 million to the Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk and $1.6 million to the Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Amelia.

    Senator Warner hosts 2nd annual Young Professionals Summit

That’s what Senator Warner, a co-founder of Nextel and former venture capital investor, told more than 300 young people attending the second annual Virginia Young Professionals Summit in Richmond on Saturday.

    Stopping by the Virginia State Fair
    Senator Warner stopped by the new State Fair of Virginia in Caroline County today on his way down to Richmond for our annual Virginia Young Professionals Summit. In March, the Fair was almost permanently shuttered when its parent company filed for bankruptcy.

    On the Road: Alexandria, Fort Belvoir, Stafford
    Senator Warner had a hometown town hall meeting this morning at the United Way headquarters in Alexandria. The Alexandria Chamber of Commerce hosted the town hall, and members asked questions on topics ranging from energy, education, and, obviously, deficit reduction.

    Staring at a fiscal cliff
    Senator Warner was interviewed on Washington’s WTOP Radio this morning about the looming fiscal cliff. The fiscal cliff is the simultaneous, end-of-year potential impact of the expiration of the Bush tax cuts, the payroll tax holiday, and the implementation of deep automatic spending cuts required under last summer’s debt ceiling deal.

    The final day of our three-day swing across southwest Virginia started off with a tour of the General Dynamics plant in Marion. The plant assembles parts of jets, including wings and nose cones, and employs 500 residents of Smyth county.

    We kicked off day two of a three day swing around Southwest Virginia yesterday with a visit to Buchanan Mine #1 near the town of Oakwood. Senator Warner greeted miners before suiting up and heading down into the mine.

    On the Road: Jonesville, Big Stone Gap and Grundy
    Senator Warner today began a three day trip through Southwest Virginia with a stop at the Lee County Chamber of Commerce in Jonesville. He spoke to about 85 people and answered questions relating to several of the issues he's done a lot of work on, including energy, education, and the fiscal cliff.
