REED QUESTIONS $142K FOR FREE RIDES AT SUPER BOWL
“While most Americans couldn’t afford the $3,982* average price of a Super Bowl Ticket, their tax dollars were being used to provide free transportation for those who could.”

At last year’s Super Bowl in Indianapolis, the United States Department of Transportation paid for free bus transportation for Super Bowl attendees.  The free rides were covered by a $142,000 federal grant.  Full fare service on the same routes would typically cost $1.75 each ride.    

“While most Americans couldn’t afford the $3,982 average price of a Super Bowl Ticket, their tax dollars were being used to provide free transportation for those who could,” Reed said.   “I cannot understand why the taxpayer should be expected to pick up the tab for transporting Super Bowl attendees to and from the big game.  I would bet that anyone spending nearly $4,000 just for a game ticket would be more than willing to spend less than two dollars to get there.” 

Earlier this year Reed began an initiative to spotlight taxpayer dollars being frittered away by federal agencies.  The program has highlighted more than $14,770,274,000 of wasteful spending thus far.
