BRIGADIER GENERAL HALLIE E. "ED" ROBERTSON
Brigadier General Hallie E. "Ed" Robertson is command director, NORAD Combat Operations Staff, J-31, Headquarters NORAD, Peterson Air Force Base, Colo. General Robertson was born in 1943, in Cambridge, Ohio, where he graduated from Cambridge High School in 1961. He attended Muskingum College, earned a bachelor of business administration degree from Ohio University in 1966 and a master's degree in public relations from the American University in 1975. The general completed Squadron Officer School in 1971, Air Command and Staff College in 1978, and Air War College in 1987. After being commissioned as a second lieutenant through the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps program in June 1966, General Robertson began his career as an information officer at Headquarters Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps, Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala. In April 1969 he was assigned to Da Nang Air Base, South Vietnam, as information officer for the 366th Tactical Fighter Wing. Returning to the United States in May 1970, General Robertson became director of information for the Air Force Aeronautical Chart and Information Center, St. Louis. He became an action officer with the secretary of the Air Force's Office of Information, Washington, D.C., in January 1972. In July 1974 he was assigned to the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense, Public Affairs, as Air Force desk officer and later served as military assistant to the principal assistant secretary of defense for public affairs until July 1977. After graduating from Air Command and Staff College in June 1978, General Robertson served a one-year education-with-industry tour of duty with WGN Broadcasting, Chicago, through the Air Force Institute of Technology program. From August 1979 to January 1983 he was director of public affairs for the Aeronautical Systems Division, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. General Robertson then transferred to Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C., as special assistant to the deputy chief of staff for research, development and acquisition. In July 1983 he became special assistant, public affairs, to the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He entered Air War College in August 1986 and, upon graduation in June 1987, was assigned to Headquarters Tactical Air Command, Langley Air Force Base, Va., as director of public affairs. In October 1989 he became director of public affairs, Office of the Secretary of the Air Force, Washington, D.C. He assumed his present position in May 1992. The general's military awards and decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Joint Service Commendation Medal and Republic of Vietnam Honor Medal First Class. He was promoted to brigadier general May 1, 1991, with same date of rank. (Current as of May 1992) | |||||
