11/2/2012 - WASHINGTON (AFNS) -- Two aircraft maintenance Airmen received the Gen. Lew Allen Jr. Award on Oct. 31 during a ceremony held inside the Pentagon.

Maj. Jennifer Gurganus, U.S. Air Force Advanced Maintenance and Munitions Officer School director of operations from Nellis Air Force Base, Nev., and Master Sgt. Christopher Davis, 748th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron lead production superintendent at Royal Air Force Lakenheath, England, received their awards from Gen. Larry Spencer, vice chief of staff of the Air Force.

The award honors accomplishments of a base-level officer and senior NCO in aircraft, munitions or missile maintenance directly involved in aircraft sortie generation. The award's namesake served as the Air Force chief of staff from 1978 to 1982.

Gurganus earned the award for her contributions to aircraft sortie generation when she was a captain serving as a maintenance operations officer with the 380th Expeditionary Aircraft Maintenance Squadron in Southwest Asia, supporting Operations Enduring Freedom and New Dawn as well as Combined Joint Task Force Horn of Africa.

Davis earned the award for his contributions to aircraft sortie generation while he was assigned as the lead production superintendent for the 748th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron at RAF Lakenheath.
