NATO’s relations with Ukraine

The formal basis for NATO-Ukraine relations is the 1997 Charter on a Distinctive Partnership, which established the NATO-Ukraine Commission (NUC). An Intensified Dialogue on Ukraine's membership aspirations and related reforms was launched in 2005. Under President Viktor Yanukovych’s current government, Ukraine is not presently seeking membership of the Alliance, however, this has had no practical impact on cooperation with NATO.

High-level international forum focuses on Ukraine’s non-bloc policy

NATO supports Smart Defence in South-Eastern Europe

The NATO Communications and Information (NCI) Agency will support efforts to sustain the multinational South-Eastern Europe Brigade in carrying out a wide range of missions, including disaster management, and ensure full interoperability with NATO in operations. The support package was reviewed by sixteen defence ministers at the South- Eastern Europe Defence Ministerial (SEDM) in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, on 3 October.
