Money from the federal stimulus program may reduce the three-month wait time for an appointment at the Shawnee County Health Agency Clinic.

Shawnee County commissioners authorized Anne Freeze, health agency director, to speed the process of preparing the application and sending it to Washington.

If approved, the agency would receive $201,000 to use over a two-year period. Freeze said the money would provide longer hours for the clinic and more medical personnel to see patients. The longer hours is the most likely solution, she said, as there is a limit to rooms in the health agency building at 1615 S.W. 8th that could be converted into patient treatment space.

Fast action was needed because the availability of the money was just announced Monday, and the applications are due next Monday.

$275 per day

2 years=730 days.

$201,000/730=$275.34

$275 per day extra might do something, I guess. If an extra doctor wanted to work for $34/hr...that may help.

Seriously, though...hopefully something can be done with our borrowed Chinese money.

I am quite positive that the

I am quite positive that the resourceful people that run SCHA can buy plenty of vaccines and medicines with the money.

SCHA has been such a savior to me over the years. Helping me get a discount surgery when I was sick and helping with the medicines afterward. Even though I am insured now, I trust no one else with my medical needs. They have a fantastic and caring staff. They help all the people in our community. They help a lot of poor people, and people who are just strapped for cash in this society devoid of health care.

Thank you NG
