There are 5 offices around Louisville that handle issuing permits, drivers licenses, commercial drivers licenses and personal IDs. Only one office however, Bowman Field, handles written and driving tests for new drivers and those relocating to Louisville (more information below). Below are details of what services the offices offer, and the locations:
What you can do at all locations

- Transfer your license to Kentucky if you're coming from another state and your license is still valid
- Lost licenses (If you have lost your permit, drivers license or commercial drivers license, you must bring with you 2 documents that have your signature on them (Examples: car registration, social security cards, lease or loan agreements, medical paperwork w/ signature)
What additional services you can only do at the St. Matthews/Bowman Field branch:
- Take a written drivers test
- Take a drivers test (Offered by the Kentucky State Police)
Note:
If you are moving to Louisville from another state, and your license has expired, you must go to Bowman Field to take a written test and an eye test prior to receiving a Kentucky state license.
