Responsibilities
The Building/Permits Department, a division of the Engineering Department, is dedicated to the service of the community by ensuring that the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens are addressed through its responsibilities in the administration and enforcement of all adopted building and construction codes of the City of Frederick. In its commitment to excellence in community growth and development, the Building Department will strive to afford an efficient and responsive environment by providing consistent, organized, and courteous service to the public.

One-Stop Shop
Same day permitting is available at One-Stop Shop on Tuesdays from 8am - 11am. Applications for One-Stop Shop are limited to fences, decks, sheds, pools//hot tubs/spas, residential interior renovation, basement finish, garages/carports, re-roofing, residential paving (pavers, concrete, asphalt), retaining walls under 5’ high, commercial tenant fit-outs under 5,000 sf with no change in use, signs, demolition and temporary trailers.
Effective 9/18/12, Zoning Applications will be accepted.
Applications located in the Historic Preservation District must provide a HPC Certificate of Approval and all supporting documentation in order to be eligible for One-Stop Shop.
Payments made by CASH or CHECK (City of Frederick) only.
