Shelley Aloi, Alderwoman, is serving her first term as Alderwoman.  Alderman Aloi was raised as a resident of the City of Frederick and in 1982 graduated from Hood College with a B.A. in Biochemistry and Mathematics.  She is also a 2009 graduate of Leadership Frederick County.  Her early career began in AIDS and cancer research at Ft. Detrick and has included teaching at the middle school, high school and university levels as well as consulting for private research projects.  In addition, Alderman Aloi has worked with both the U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Olympic Committee. She represents the City of Frederick on the Streets and Sanitation Commission, the Plumbing and Electrical Boards, the Taxicab Commission and the Public Art Commission as well as the Frederick County Solid Waste Advisory Committee and the Washington Area Council of Governments Chesapeake Bay and Water Resources and Policy Committee.  In addition, Alderman Aloi is the City of Frederick liaison to the Downtown Frederick Partnership, the Weinberg Board, the National Museum of Civil War Medicine, the Sister Cities Association and the Ft. Detrick Community Liaison Council.  Alderman Aloi has been active in community service for over 25 years. She holds a black belt and is currently involved with the Police Activity League as karate instructor to at-risk youth in the Frederick area. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, biking and sailing.
