Bluegrass Ultra-Transit Service

BUS, a rural public transit service, operates in Anderson, Boyle, Casey, Franklin, Garrard, Jessamine, Lincoln, Mercer, Scott, Washington and Woodford Counties.  The service provided includes public demand response, and an inter-city route between Danville and Lexington.  Human Service Transportation Delivery (HSTD) Region 8 brokerage that provides Medicaid, Vocational Rehabilitation and Department for the Blind trips in our eleven county area is also a part of the BUS program.  

    Transportation service is available for both Public and the HSTD Brokerage Monday through Friday 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Saturday service is available 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  To make a reservation call the toll-free number 1-800-456-6588.  The BUS office is manned 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturdays.  A BUS staff person can be reached via cell phone at all other hours by calling the toll free number 1-800-456-6588.  The BUS office is equipped with an automated reservation/scheduling system that is used to book all trips.  All trips with the exception of “Urgent Care” must be reserved at least 72 hours prior to the appointment via our toll-free line.   Medicaid recipients can request “Urgent Care” service on a same day basis with a referral from their physician.  The Inter-city route between Danville and Lexington is operated Monday through Friday 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Contractual service is available Monday through Friday by prearrangement.  

Kentucky Relay Service-The Kentucky relay service enables the hearing or speech-impaired to call the BUS office to request service or information. To reach the Kentucky Relay Service TDD users call 1-800-648-6056, voice users call 1-800-648-6057. Give the operator the BUS toll-free telephone number.

    The fare for public transit is $1.00 per person per mile with a $3.00 minimum.  For recipients of the Brokerage programs the fare is paid through the HSTD contract and the recipient is not charged.  Contractual service is charged at a fixed rate to cover all costs of the service.  Currently the BUS fleet consists of 65 lift equipped small Buses and 16 vehicles of other types.    

Cancellation or no-show trips-Passengers are urged to call the BUS toll-free number 24 hours in advance if they find they must cancel their scheduled trip. Persons who request trips and do not call to cancel in advance will be considered a no-show. After repeated no-show's the passenger's file will be reviewed for decision as to whether further trips will be scheduled.
