HOW TO USE THE GENERAL SURGERY CLINIC
To access this clinic you must have a referral from your Primary Care Provider. After a referral to General Surgery has been placed, please call 785-239-DOCS (3627) to schedule your initial appointment. After your initial appointment, all follow up appointments will be made directly through the General Surgery Clinic at 785-239-7163. If the procedure or medical care that you require is only offered by a surgical subspecialist not available at IACH, the referral will be sent to Tri West for assignment to an off-post provider. You can check the status of a referral by calling IACH referral management, calling Tri West (1-888-Tri-West) or the Tri West website.

If you have an issue after office hours, you may go to the Emergency Room or call the Nurse Advice Line at 785-239-DOCS (3627). The Nurse Advice Line is open 24 hours daily for 7 days a week including all weekends and federal holidays. They can advise you on whether you need to see your doctor or how to take your medication. If you need immediate care, you will be directed to go to the Emergency Room and the surgeon on call may be contacted

The General Surgery Clinic is located on the first floor of Irwin Army Community Hospital. From the main entrance go to the main elevators and take a left. Then turn right down the hallway. We are past the Well Baby Clinic on the left hand side.

General Surgery FAQs
  • Question: May I be treated by IACH General Surgery if I am a Tricare beneficiary over 65 years old and/or have an off-post Primary Care Provider?
  • Answer: Yes. We will be happy to see you at IACH General Surgery. Please bring a note or script from your Primary Care Provider stating your diagnosis and the General Surgery service that is requested.

  • Question: Will the clinic automatically receive results and notes from consults and tests done outside of IACH?
  • Answer: Not always. Please bring a copy of your results to your appointment if possible and have all outside test results faxed to 785-239-7023. Faxed results will come directly to the General Surgery Clinic and ensure that the surgeon receives the results before your next appointment.

  • Question: Does the General Surgery Clinic perform weight loss surgeries?
  • Answer: No, the General Surgery Clinic does not offer weight loss surgery. However, if you meet established criteria for weight loss surgery, your Primary Care Provider may place a referral to a local American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence so that you may be evaluated by a bariatric specialist.

  • Question: What do I do if I run out of medications?
  • Answer: Call the clinic and leave a message with the clerk that you need a renewal on medications. The clerk will forward the message to the appropriate staff member and you will receive a call back to inform you that the medication has been renewed or that you need an additional appointment to obtain the medication.
