HIV/AIDS Outreach & Advocacy
Over 10% of all new AIDS cases in the US occur in people over the age of 50. While many of these AIDS cases are the result of HIV infection at younger age, many are due to becoming infected after age 50. The ALTSD HIV/AIDS Outreach & Advocacy Program assists individuals living with and/or affected by HIV/AIDS with information and guidance in public assistance, benefits and case management referrals. The Program also conducts bi-monthly Educational Support Forums for individuals infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. Free anonymous HIV testing and counseling is offered at the Department’s ABQ Tijeras office and at various outreach events, including the NM Conference on Aging Health Fair.
