Outpatient Clinic
The Ponce Clinic is a Satellite of the San Juan VAMC, and was established in 1988 to improve access to Primary Care services for veterans in the southern part of Puerto Rico. We currently provide a wide variety of services:
- Primary Medical and Nursing Care
- General Psychiatry (not including drug and alcoholism services)
- Urology
- Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, including Occupational and Physical Therapy
- Cardiology, including Echocardiography, Stress Test and Holter
- Minor surgery
- Optometry and Clinical (non-surgical) Ophthalmology
- Podiatry
- Laboratory
- X-Ray and Sonography
- Pharmacy
- X-Ray and Sonography
- Social Work
- Dietetics Evaluation and Counseling
- Prescriptions: Prescriptions processed in our main facility, through the mail or My HealtheVet.
The Clinics also provides services with visiting staff in Gastroenterology and Spinal Cord Injury, and through "telemedicine" in several other specialties. Services that are not available in the Satellite Clinic can be obtained at the VA Medical Center in San Juan.
The VA Veterans Benefits Administration provides counseling and services in the clinic from 7:30 am to 3:00 pm.
Please note that Community Based Clinics do not have emergency rooms, and are not the facilities of choice in case of life threatening emergencies. In such cases, it is advisable to contact 911 or a hospital based emergency room.
Registration and Enrollment Information
Patients not previously registered may do so at this clinic and are either seen the same day or will be given an appointment for a later date.
Driving Directions
The Clinic is located at 1010 Paseo del Veterano in Ponce. This is just across the campus of the University of Puerto Rico, Ponce Campus, and adjacent to the Judicial Center.
From the North and East: Take Hwy 52 (Expreso Las Americas) west to Ponce, and exit on Km. 104 north (“Ponce Centro”.) Bare right after exiting the ramp, into a service road (“marginal”). Follow the signs to Centro Judicial. At the end of the road, the Clinic will be at your right, and Centro Judicial to your left.
Alternatively, you may take PR 1 from any town east of Ponce, to PR 14 South. Follow the signs to Centro Judicial. At the end of the road, the Clinic will be at your right, and Centro Judicial to your left.
From the West: On Hwy 52 (Expreso Las Americas) east, take the second exit after the toll, at Km. 104. This will loop under the highway. Stay on the right lane after exiting the ramp, into a service road (“marginal”). Follow the signs to Centro Judicial. At the end of the road, the Clinic will be at your right, and Centro Judicial to your left.
Alternatively, you may take PR 2 from west of Ponce. This turns into the “Ponce By-Pass”. Follow the By-Pass until the intersection with PR 14, which will be immediately after the Plaza del Caribe Mall. Go up the ramp toward the south (right). Stay on the right lane. And take the first exit to your right. Follow the signs to Centro Judicial. At the end of the road, the Clinic will be at your right, and Centro Judicial to your left.
