Kid Squad

Kid Squad logoKid Squad is:

  • Early Childhood Consultation Program offered at no cost to eligible child care homes and centers.
  • A tested model that results in improvement in children’s social and emotional development, reduction in behavior problems and decrease in need for child expulsions from childcare.
  • Composed of early childhood educators and mental health practitioners with expertise in early childhood, social and emotional development and the needs of young families.
  • Based in the Positive Behavioral Intervention Support model.

Kid Squad professionals help strengthen the services offered to young children and their families. They can help develop staff skills, implement effective classroom strategies and solve problems with challenging children or families under stress. They can help caregivers and parents find specialized services for children with more serious emotional, educational or behavioral problems. Kid Squad offers child and family focused consultation. Kid Squad consultants will observe the child in the classroom (child development center/head start), consult with the family and the child care staff, and assess the needs of the child.

Child Care Centers, In Home Child Care and Early Childhood Education Programs in Douglas and Sarpy Counties, serving children ages 5 or under who receive Title 20 assistance, are eligible to apply. Contact Traci Penrod-McCormick – (402) 553-6000 – at Child Saving Institute for more information.

KID SQUAD is a cooperative program of the Center for Holistic Development, Child Saving Institute, Early Childhood Training Center, Heartland Family Service, Lutheran Family Services of Nebraska, Behave’n Day Center, Region 6 Behavioral Healthcare, and Munroe-Meyer Institute. The State of Nebraska Health and Human Services System, the Buffett Early Childhood Foundation and The Kim Foundation provide funding support for this program.
