Press Releases
The North Carolina Housing Finance Agency, a self-supporting public agency, has financed more than 201,000 affordable homes and apartments for North Carolina citizens since its creation by the General Assembly in 1973.
The Agency’s mission is to create affordable housing opportunities for North Carolinians whose needs are not met by the market. It accomplishes this mission through the sale of tax-exempt bond programs for housing production and rehabilitation, and management of the HOME Investment Partnerships Program, the Federal Low-Income Housing Tax Credit, the State Housing Credit, other federal and state programs, and the North Carolina Housing Trust Fund.
Using these and other sources of funds, including earnings, the Agency provides financing ranging from low-cost mortgages and downpayment assistance for first-time home buyers to helping local governments, nonprofit organizations, and private owners develop affordable homes and apartments.
