Jan 15, 1950 - General of the Air Force Henry H. Arnold dies of a heart ailment in Sonoma, Calif.

Feb 1, 1950 - Continental Air Command directed to set up a civil air raid warning system.

Feb 20, 1950 - The largest peacetime maneuver in U.S. history began. It was the first to employ airborne troops in an amphibious operation.
