Welcome to Mayfly Central!
Mayfly Central is a place, a program, and an information resource. It
is located in the Department of Entomology at Purdue
University, where it is associated with the Laboratory of Aquatic Entomology.
The program is a multidimensional research and education program dedicated to
the pursuit and dissemination of knowledge about mayflies, or the insect order
Ephemeroptera. The resource involves information about mayflies, especially
the taxonomy, ecology, behavior and life history of species in North America and
Central America, and systematics of pannote mayflies, burrowing mayflies, small
minnow mayflies, and flatheaded mayflies throughout the world. Undergirding all
of this is a research and reference collection of over 250,000 mayfly specimens
from throughout the world representing most known taxa and numerous new taxa yet
to be described. Most information about mayflies and why mayflies are important
currently may be found under The Mayflies of North America.

Several items of information are planned for Mayfly Central on the Web,
including all kinds of infomation about mayflies. Currently, however,
the primary item is The Mayflies of North America.
This is a continuously updated account of the species of mayflies in Canada,
Mexico, and the continental United States. It includes information about
the distribution of all species, their classification, current scientific
names and other names that have been used for them in the past.
An international E-Mail Directory and Switchboard
for Mayfly Researchers
and Enthusiasts is also provided for those whose addresses have been
made available.
If you would like to be included in the directory, please
send your mailing address and E-Mail address to Mayfly Central. Use the Comments & Info form to send your address.

The "Mayfly Newsletter" is published by P. M. Grant at Southwestern Oklahoma
State University, Weatherford, OK 73096-3098. The newsletter is published
occasionally and has included such useful items of information as postal
addresses of mayfly researchers from throughout the world, an annual mayfly
bibliography listing some of the current scientific publications dealing with
mayflies, information about mayfly conferences, and other various tidbits. If
you are interested in "The Mayfly Newletter," contact the editor, P. M. Grant.
