General Information

Lehigh County government operates two nursing facilities for Lehigh County residents in need of short or long-term nursing care.Lehigh County Cedarbrook All services offered by our facilities are available to all eligible individuals without regard to race, national origin, religious creed, age, sex, or physical handicap.

At Cedarbrook Nursing Home, the resident’s length of stay at the facility is based upon the level of care required to meet his/her individual needs. There are three options:

Long Term

This length of stay is intended for those individuals who can no longer be maintained at home with assistance of family and community services, or in an assisted living facility (personal care home) because he/she requires ongoing nursing care and other services. A long term stay is more than six months.

Short Term

This length of stay is for those individuals who require nursing care and other services, such as physical, occupational, and speech therapy, which will enable them to live in the community, either independently, or with assistance of family and community services, or in an assisted living facility. A short term stay is less than six months.

Post-Hospital/Short Term

This length of stay is for those individuals needing skilled nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and/or speech therapy after a three-night hospital stay and within thirty days of discharge from the hospital. A goal of the Post-Hospital stay is for the resident to return to the community. A post-hospital/short term stay is 100 days or less, as determined by the individual’s insurance coverage.

Respite Care

Based upon bed availability, length of stay is intended for those individuals whose caregiver is temporarily incapacitated, or needs a break from the stress demands of care giving. A respite stay shall not exceed fourteen (14) days. Exceptions shall be considered on a case by case basis.

SPECIAL UNITS

Secured Unit for Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders. Each Cedarbrook facility offers special, secured units for those individuals with Alzheimer’s Disease and related disorders. These units provide an environment, which maximizes function and independence.

BED HOLD POLICY

When a resident is hospitalized, his/her bed may be held a maximum of fifteen consecutive days. If the resident is hospitalized beyond fifteen days, his/her bed may be released. Cedarbrook will make arrangements to readmit such residents to the first available bed when they are ready for discharge from the hospital.
