County Executive, Bill Hansell

Bill Hansell was selected by the Lehigh County Board of Commissioners to serve as Lehigh County’s fifth County Executive.  He took the oath of office on August 28, 2012, and presented his administration’s first budget just one hour later.

County Executive Hansell was able to hit the ground running because of his extensive experience managing local government.  In fact, he has devoted most of the past fifty years to a career in public service, dedicating his time to working with and managing local governments and democratic institutions of governance.

Mr. Hansell has extensive experience in managing communities in the Lehigh Valley and has also provided management consulting services to many other governments when not serving as a public official.

For a combined twenty-one years, Mr. Hansell has served as executive director of the Pennsylvania League of Cities and Municipalities and the International City/ County Management Association, helping to improve local governments in Pennsylvania and beyond.

Mr. Hansell has been an expert speaker on local government and its management in all fifty states and twelve countries outside the US.  In addition to his service as a former Lehigh County Commissioner and current County Executive, he has served in different capacities with the City of Philadelphia, City of Allentown, Borough of South Whitehall and the Borough of Catasauqua.
