Family Driven Support Services
What is FDSS? A method of providing services and support in which the family members and person with mental retardation decide what services and supports are needed. The case manager and FDSS coordinator assist the family to prioritize needs and develop a service plan to meet those needs. Under FDSS the individualĀ“s and family's knowledge of their needs and priorities is respected.
At least once a year, families develop a service plan with their case manager, using cash payment, voucher, program-funded services, informal supports and community resources.
The Purpose of FDSS
To keep families together and prevent premature residential placement of people with mental retardation;
To reduce stress on families;
To improve the ability of families to meet the needs of the family member with disabilities;
