Intervention

                                                        What is Intervention?

Intervention encompasses the initial steps for drug and alcohol services. The goal is to assist the individual to recognize, to identify and to engage the problems related to substance abuse. Intervention services identify the fact that support is needed not only for the individual but also for their family environments.

The following are the Intervention Services offered in Lehigh County:

Allentown Health Bureau provides confidential counseling and testing for HIV - the virus that causes AIDS - screening and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases, tuberculosis testing, Hepatitis B and C screening, Hepatitis B immunization and a wide range of STD and HIV/AIDS prevention education services to Lehigh County drug and alcohol treatment providers' staff and clients.

Valley Youth House Family Intervention Program (FIP) home- based services are targeted at families in which children at risk of maltreatment due to parental and/or child substance abuse and/or mental health problems. Intensive clinical intervention and case management include education on parenting skills, respite foster care, emergency shelter and medical.

Lehigh Valley Drug and Alcohol Intake Unit provides information, assessment, and referrals for Lehigh County residents with a drug and/or alcohol problem. Intensive Case Management is provided for eligible clients who need assistance in accessing ancillary services (e.g. housing, mental health, vocational/educational, medical, etc.)

Lehigh County Men's Community Correctional Center – a collaborative effort between Lehigh County Drug and Alcohol, Lehigh County Prison, Lehigh County Probation / Parole, Lehigh Valley Drug & Alcohol Intake Unit and Riverside Care. The Program will provide an array of services designed to prepare offenders to successfully transition back into the community from prison and will also serve as an alternative to incarceration for violating conditions of parole. Lehigh Valley Drug & Alcohol Intake Unit facilities the Program which meets daily (Monday – Friday) and will take an average of eight (8) weeks to complete. Topics discussed include: Substance Abuse / Dependence, Criminal Thinking / Behavior, Internal Responsivity Factors, Risk Management and Parenting and Family Caring. After successful completion of the Program, the inmate may be eligible for Out-patient (OP) or Intensive Out-Patient (IOP) services through Riverside Care, Inc.
