Front-End Engineer

Summary

We are looking for a Front-End Engineer who is very comfortable with HTML, CSS and JavaScript. You can work alone but are not afraid to work very closely with UX/UI designers and back-end engineers. Jeffrey Zeldman, Eric Meyer, Ethan Marcotte, Paul Irish and Douglas Crockford are familiar names. :-)

You'll translate product and design ideas into semantic, well-structured presentation code that is elegant, beautiful, and takes full advantage of desktop and mobile browsers.

Qualifications

  • Experience at a fast-paced startup
  • Strong HTML/CSS knowledge
  • Strong JavaScript and jQuery knowledge
  • Familiar with a CSS preprocessor like LESS, Sass or Stylus
  • Aware of mobile constraints and familiar with responsive web design techniques
  • Good knowledge of git
  • Comfortable with the command line
  • Basic knowledge of Photoshop (basically to resize and optimize images)
  • Experience with Backbone.js, Node.js, Express and MongoDB a plus
  • Design sensibility and UX knowledge a plus

Full-Stack Engineer

Summary

We seek a full-stack coder with strong understanding of back-end infrastructure who has experience architecting complex systems. You will be developing systems and features across the entire stack at storify.com. Our existing server stack is built on Node.js and MongoDB. You will have roughly 5-7 years of experience. We're looking for someone who can work independently, but is also open and willing to take direction.

Experience with search, relevance, ranking algorithms, optimizing sites for speed and scale, as well as dealing with heavily-cached systems are a big plus.

Lead Operations Engineer

Summary

We are looking for an experienced Ops person to help us create systems and tools to manage, monitor, and maintain all aspects of Storify's production and development environments. Our current environment is built on node.js, mongodb, redis, and elasticserach.

Responsibilities

  • Design, scale, and automate the management of Storifys's cloud-based infrastructure
  • Support, troubleshoot, and maintain production and other environments
  • Monitor site stability and performance
  • Work with Engineering to roll out new software
  • Participate in oncall rotation

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of solid Unix system administration experience
  • Previous startup experience
  • Proven experience in maintaining production servers
  • Solid scripting experience in at least 2 of the following: sh, javascript, ruby, python, etc.
  • Strong understanding of network protocols and client-server communication
  • HTTP, DNS, SSH, SSL, etc...
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills

Senior iOS Engineer

Summary

We seek a broad-skillset iOS engineer, who will be working directly on product design, interacting with back-end services, as well as building every aspect of our leading-edge mobile products.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the entire team to ideate, define, and create mobile iOS products
  • Scope and evaluate different approaches (build vs. services) to implement features and fix bugs
  • Define and implement processes for iOS builds, QA, and services requirements
  • Collaborate around architectural decisions and specifications as needed

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience generating commercial quality iOS applications using Objective C and Cocoa
  • Held key role in developing Web services preferred
  • Comfortable with rapid development cycles, tight schedules, tight integration with a team at a fast-paced startup

Summary

We're looking for a customer support person to be the first point of contact to handle user feedback and resolve complaints. You are a problem solver who can research information and troubleshoot problems using available resources. You must be friendly with a large capacity of empathy. We're looking for a person with common sense, someone who can identify and escalate issues appropriately. You should be a team player, as you will work closely with the product manager and the engineering team.

Whoever we hire will have opportunities to take on other responsibilities and grow according to his or her interests (community managing, for example).
