Maj. Gen. James D. Demeritt is the Military Assistant to the Deputy Chief of Staff for Strategic Plans and Programs, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C. He assists in the development, integration, evaluation and analysis of the U.S. Air Force Future Years Defense Program that exceeds $635 billion, as well as the Air Force long-range plan to support national security objectives and military strategy.

General Demeritt received his commission through Officer Candidate School in 1982. He spent 13 years serving in traditional service assignments primarily with the Vermont Air National Guard in South Burlington. He then completed several assignments at the Air National Guard Readiness Center.

Prior to assuming his current position, General Demeritt served as the Director, Legislative Liaison for the Chief, National Guard Bureau.
