Save the Seabirds

The Mayor's Office is an active member of the SOS - Save Our Seabirds Program. The partnership includes Maui Electric Company, Haleakala National Park, Department of Land and Natural Resources - Division of Forestry and Wildlife, Maui Nui Seabird Recovery Project and the County of Maui. Together, these agencies work to raise awareness about seabird groundings and how the public can help to ensure their protection. For the endangered Hawaiian Petrel or ua‘u, every individual is important to the survival of the species.

An informational brochure was created to provide guidance when a grounded seabird is encountered, including important phone numbers to report the incident and how to properly care for the bird until help arrives.

Should you encounter a grounded seabird, please call 280-4114 immediately, and refer to the brochure for proper care of the bird until wildlife staff can respond and pick it up.

Save our seabirds brochure.
