High school football Week 4 lookback: What we learned Friday

What we learned from Friday's games (all two of them, thanks to Typhoon Sinlaku; which pushed one game back to Monday):

-- We may havewitnessedTrey Griffin's coming-out party at Osan American's Cougars Field. The Daegu American sophomore tossed two touchdown passes to Thomas Smith as the defending Class A runner-up Warriors beat Osan 28-10. Phillip Cox lived in the Cougars' backfield, causing four sacks. David Martinez ran back an interception for a TD. A good effort on both sides of the ball for Daegu.

-- Like the Patriots with Tom Brady, Osan must now pick itself up, dust itself off and get along without athletic quarterback Rashad Bell for however long the youngster may be down with a knee injury. A very important cog in the wheel, yes, but one man simply does not make a football team.

-- Looks like we must wait until Monday at 6 p.m. at Naval Air Facility Atsugi's Reid Memorial Stadium to see which one, Zama American or Nile C. Kinnick, will get better. Second straight season Kinnick at Zama was postponed to Monday due to a typhoon.

-- In a season of lowlights for Southern, Mario Martinez's light burned brightest on Friday at John F. Kennedy's Ramsey Field. Try four touchdowns on the ground and one in the air in Southern's 34-18 victory.

Yokota at Kubasaki on Saturday. Stay tuned.
