High school football Week 5 lookback: What we learned Saturday

-- They don't get much more scary than they did Saturday afternoon at Camp Walker's Kelly Field. Quite a nice comeback by Seoul American, which trailed much of the day 14-3 on the KellyTurf. Nico Scholl falling on a fumble in the Daegu end zone and Willie Brown's 8-yard touchdown catch to cap a 13-point run within six minutes of the final period.

-- Trinidai Stansel continues todo it on both sides of the ball. Ran for 73 yards to keep some drives alive, and made two game-saving tackles. Also broke up two passes.

-- Falcons defense may have a tough time stopping the DODDS-Japan Football League champion if it can't allow less than the 287 yards that the Warriors gained on them.

-- Trey Griffin continues to manifest his great potential: 9-for-18 for 130 yards and a touchdown, and running for another score en route to 30 yards on six carries. May be the best QB in Korea.

-- Injuries began to tell late in the fourth quarter. Daegu needs more bodies if it's going to make a run at a second straight Class A title game berth and if it hopes to avenge last year's 27-6 loss at Kelly to Robert D. Edgren.

-- Bless Phillip Cox's heart. Missed field goals can just rip the soul right out of a guy. Keep kicking, Phil!

-- Memo to Father Duenas Memorial coach Ivan Shiroma: Don't look now, but there's a school of Sharks (Simon Sanchez) gaining on you.

-- Three of the Interscholastic Football League teams fall into the "haves" category, Father Duenas, Sanchez and George Washington (combined 12-3). Two fall into the "have-nots" category, Southern and John F. Kennedy (combined 1-8). Only Guam Hight sits as the league's lone maverick. After getting blown out in its previous two games vs. Sanchez and GW, the Panthers put up a 28-spot on thedefending league champion Friars. Even coach Brandon Miller must be having a tough time figuring out the Panthers.

-- 148 days.
