COL Brewster

COL Steven Brewster began his military career as a medic with the 172nd Infantry Brigade in Fort Richardson, AK, in 1980. Later, while pursuing a bachelor’s degree in biology at the Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA, he served as a Preventive Medicine NCO for 12th Special Forces Group (Reserve) in Seattle, WA. COL Brewster attended medical school at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD, and earned his MD in 1991.

After completing an internship in Family Medicine at Dewitt Army Community Hospital, Fort Belvoir, VA, COL Brewster was assigned as Battalion Surgeon for 10th Special Forces Group in Stuttgart, Germany, and also served as EUCOM Flight Surgeon. He returned to Dewitt to complete a Family Medicine Residency and, upon graduation, was re-assigned to Germany as commander of the Bad Kreuznach Health Clinic, followed by an assignment to the SHAPE Health Clinic in Mons, Belgium, where he worked as the OIC of the International Health Clinic and SACEUR Flight Surgeon.

COL Brewster holds a Master of Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health, and he completed a residency in Preventive Medicine at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) in Washington, D.C. Subsequently, he served as Chief of Preventive Medicine at Fort Drum, NY, from where he deployed to Ar Ramadi, Iraq, in support of the 82nd ABN DIV as the Division Preventive Medicine Physician responsible for the Al Anbar Province.

In 2004, COL Brewster returned to Germany to assume duties as Deputy Commander of Outlying Clinics for Wuerzburg MEDDAC. He also served as the MEDDAC’s Deputy Commander for Clinical Services. Between these two assignments, he served as Division Surgeon for 1ID--at that time headquartered in Wuerzburg. In 2007, he left Germany to become Director of Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance at the U.S. Army Center for Health Promotion and Preventive Medicine in Aberdeen, MD, but again returned to Germany to command the Bavaria MEDDAC in 2009.

COL Brewster is a graduate of the Army Command and General Staff College and the Naval War College. He is board certified in both Preventive Medicine and Family Medicine.
