In celebration of the Bicentennial of the War of 1812, the Monuments Commission will join with the Baltimore City Commission for Historical and Architectural Preservation to refurbish the Federal Hill Park monument commemorating Major General Samuel Smith, who commanded the defenses of Baltimore during the Battle of Baltimore in 1814.  The City provides routine maintenance to the bronze statue, which overlooks Baltimore Harbor, but the stone pedestal is in need of costly repairs.  The Maryland Military Monuments Commission has committed  its current fundraising efforts to this important symbol to the State of Maryland.  We ask your help to achieve this worthy goal.
