KTV, are you serious? Not all Airman have this mentality. Those that receive an IEB are provided this incentive for reasons beyond your knowledge, that is obvious by your comment. I spent 30 years as an Air Force Enlisted member and loved every minute of it. However, I chose eash and every assignment based on my skills and abilities just as these young men and women do. These individuals are in the thick of combat when it is required of them. They are away from their families more than you and I probably will ever be. My hat is off to these brave men and women for their service to Country and getting into the fight for freedom. Shame on you for making a senseless comment such as you did

Why doesn't the military give bonuses to 3E7X1 Fire Protection Specialist? They do a job just as dangerous or more dangerous as 3E8X1 Explosive ordnance disposal. At least 3E8X1 knows they are going in to defuse a bomb. In some cases Fire Protection goes into a burning building or aircraft to save lives only to discover there is a greater hazard than just the fire such as fuel tanks collapsing roofs vehicles and so on.

What gets me is the lack of knowledge of the bonus program which is imminent more in the Army Guard with their latest scandal. I was put on 2 years inactive ready reserve - not good years - to complete additional college. when I returned to re-join the guard the recruiter told me that I would get a reenlistment bonus of 15K. It turned out that the 2yrs of inactive reserve bumped my total time in the guard to 17 years and the bonus was only applicable to airmen with only 15 or 16 service years. I said screw that just take off those 2 years because they didn't count as good years anyway . . . and they said no possible way. Another thing is that they are pushing people out as soon as they reach 20yrs. They really know how to provide a warm welcoming. They need to know the facts up front before committing to promises they cannot keep

KTV there are less bonuses offered now than in the years past. I think when you look at some of these AFSC's we would be better off paying some of the Airmen more to take these types of jobs. 8 of these AFSC's are very tough to attract quality young men and women even harder to keep them. IMO

So let me get this straight. The AF is trying to find ways to discharge people to save money but we are going to pay people large sums of money to enlist into career fields that already have hefty SRBs And KTV is right. The last time I saw initial enlistment bonuses the Airman that got them pretty much said I got paid to come in I am going to take the money and not reenlist joke's on you.

Come walk a mile in one of my EOD Airmen's shoes and you'll know why they get a bonus. They don't pay these Warriors enough.

And we wonder why the airmen of today have the you owe me attitude.
