Darlene McCampbell, my high school English teacher, was an extraordinary teacher. She challenged us, encouraged us, and brought out the best in us. Mrs. McCampbell is still teaching and inspiring students today. Great teachers help mold the future every day, and are integral to our country’s economic and national security. Teachers have an impact that far outlasts any lesson plan they may give, and we never forget a teacher who inspired us to do great things.
Today marks the beginning of National Teacher Appreciation Week. This week is a great week to give teachers the praise they deserve every day, but it also provides an opportunity to hear from teachers on how we can make teaching not only one of America’s most important professions, but one of the country’s most valued professions as well.
The Department of Education has an array of events planned throughout the week to both celebrate teaching and listen to teachers. One of the events to celebrate teachers will take place tomorrow, Teacher Appreciation Day, as we kick off a national campaign to thank our teachers on Facebook and Twitter.
Please join me tomorrow by donating your Facebook status to a teacher who has made a difference in your life, and thank a teacher on Twitter by using the hashtag #ThankaTeacher.
It’s one small token of appreciation for those who are truly America’s nation-builders.

I would like to thank all the American teachers who work really hard to make a difference not only to their American students but to all students all over the world. I want to thank my band teacher Ms.Polletto. She was an amazing teacher and really related with us. She knew we were able to be great and never lost faith in us. On march 28 she died in a car crash in a snow storm on her way to work. My band has played again but is not the same. She will alway’s be in our hearts.
Attending grade school, Jefferson, I loved all the teachers. Especially my 5th & 6th grade teachers, Mrs Cole & Mrs Sites. but I had a special feeling for my 4th grade teacher, Mrs Kambach. A long time ago, but I shall never forget! Thanks for all you did for me!!!

I would like to thank John Dewey, the most amazing teacher America has ever seen, and also George Leonard, who saw the future of Ed Technology decades ago. Never forget what we already know! Or, as John Cotton Dana said, “Who dares to teach must never cease to learn.”
I would like to take a moment to thank one of the most influential teachers during my formative years in the mid-1960s. Mrs. Kenyon, who taught at William R. Boone High School in Orlando, was my teacher for American Government and also American History. To this day I am someone who has an insatiable appetite for politics and current events. That appetite was first formed by Mrs. Kenyon whose own passion for current events and burning issues of the day was something that she passed on to her students. She taught us to be inquisitive about the world around us, to become involved in issues for which we had a felt interest and, most importantly, to regard justice as the primary virtue of any society.

Hi, Happy Teacher’s Appreciation Day! Thanks for all the help you had given me and all the hundreds of students you have had in your years of teaching! Thanks for all your hard work and dedication.
