Brig. Gen. Paul S. Dwan is the Deputy Joint Staff Surgeon and Director, Reserve Medical Readiness Operations and Affairs, Special Staff to the Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff, Washington, D.C.

General Dwan was commissioned in 1994 and served as an individual mobilization augmentee in the Department of Neurosurgery, David Grant Medical Center, Travis Air Force Base, Calif.  He was also the senior flight surgeon attached to the 79th Air Refueling Squadron at Travis AFB. The general has been an aerospace medicine chief, professional services chief, medical squadron commander and deputy medical group commander. He has twice been Chief of Aerospace Medicine in Southwest Asia, and served two tours as flight surgeon for the National Science Foundation's re-supply mission to Antarctica. From September to December 2009, General Dwan was deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom as Chief of Neurosurgery, 455th Expeditionary Medical Group, Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan. Prior to his current assignment, he was the mobilization assistant to the Command Surgeon, Headquarters Air Combat Command, Langley AFB, Va. In his civilian medical practice he is a neurosurgeon in Santa Monica, Calif.
