Brigadier General Ray A. Dunn was born Oct. 26, 1893, in New York City, N.Y. He was engaged in the design, construction and operation of aircraft from 1913 to 1917. He joined to Aviation Section of the Signal Corps, U.S. Army, on April 4, 1917, and served continuously as a rated pilot until his retirement. During his 32 years of service, he served in all capacities of administration and command.

1920 - Assigned to the Office of the Chief of Air Service to assist in the organization and establishment of the Army Airways system and later served as Operations Officer.

1925 - As Assistant Air Officer, Hawaiian Department, organized and established the Strategical Airways in the Hawaiian Islands.

1928 - Attended Army Industrial College.

1929 - Detailed to the Daniel Guggenheim Fund for the Promotion of Aviation for the purpose of directing the study of Aviation Mortality.

1929 to 1932 - As Supply Officer of Middletown Air Depot, Pa., which serviced the Air Bases of the Eastern section of the United States, he established and operated the first Air Cargo service.

1933 - Graduated from Babson Institute School of Business Administration.

1934 - Executive to General Arnold in 1st Wing, General Headquarters Air Force. When the Air Force was assigned the duty of carrying U.S. air mail, served as Assistant to General Arnold in the operation of the Western Zone, U.S. Army Air Mail Operations. He participated in the first mass flight to Alaska under the command of General Arnold and was a member of the Board which selected the present Air Installations located in Alaska.

1936 - Attended Air Force Tactical School.

1937 - Commanded Engineering Department of Middletown Air Depot, which engaged in the overhaul, repair and manufacture of aircraft, engines and equipment.

1939 - Served as Commanding Officer, Middletown Air Depot.

1940 - Executive to General Arnold, Chief of Air Corps.

1941 - Served as Special Assistant to William Knudson, War Products Board. Later served as Special Assistant to General Arnold in the organization, establishment and operation of the Air Corps Civilian Personnel Division. He was then detailed to England to assist the British with establishment of a system of supply and maintenance for American Air Equipment. He also assisted the Douglas and Lockheed companies in the plans, preparation and movement of personnel and equipment to the sites selected in England and Egypt.

1942 - Organized the 8th Provisional Troop Carrier Command in England. Also organized the 12th Air Service Command in England and commanded the advance echelon during the African campaign.

1943 - Organized and commanded the 12th Troop Carrier Command in Africa, participating in the invasion of Sicily and Italy. He also commanded the 51st Troop Carrier Wing in the first Allied command glider operation in the invasion of Sicily.

1944 - Assisted in the air logistics planning for the capture of Saipan, Guam and Tinian, the Palau Islands and Iwo Jima.

1948 - Inspector General of the Air Training Command, U.S. Air Force.

1949 - Director of Materiel, Military Air Transport Service.

General Dunn is a combat observer, technical observer and command pilot.
