Brigadier General Gary M. Rubus is commander of the 325th Fighter Wing, Tyndall Air Force Base, Fla. The 325th Fighter Wing, comprised of 4,400 personnel and 77 F-15 aircraft, trains pilots, controllers and support personnel for worldwide assignment to combat air superiority units.
The general received his commission as a distinguished graduate of Dartmouth College's Reserve Officer Training Corps program. He qualified as an F-4 aircraft commander directly from pilot training and began his career in fighter operations and testing with an extended combat tour in Southeast Asia. He has instructed at the U.S. Air Force Fighter Weapons School and managed squadron, wing, and major command weapons and tactics programs. He was test director and chief pilot for the initial operational test and evaluation of the F-15E. The general has commanded fighter units at the flight, squadron and wing level. His experience in political-military affairs includes sequential tours in Moscow as air attach to the Soviet Union and defense attach to the Russian Federation, followed by a posting to the Joint Staff as deputy director for international negotiations, strategic plans and policy directorate.
