Navy commander fired for allegedly falsifying records
SASEBO NAVAL BASE, Japan — The Navy continues its torrid pace of sacking senior officers for misconduct, with the firing Monday of Cmdr. Corrine Parker, commanding officer of Fleet Logistics Squadron VR-1.
Parker, the seventh commander fired thus far in 2012, was relieved of duty following allegations of falsifying administrative records, according to a Navy news release.
Capt. Patrick J. Barrett, commander of Fleet Logistics Support Wing, replaced Parker following an investigation into the allegations, the news release said. Parker was replaced by VR-1’s executive officer, Cmdr. Robert Coogan.
“Accountability actions stemming from the investigation are pending,” according to the Commander, Naval Air Forces Public Affairs release.
Parker had held the post for a little more than a year, according to the Navy. She has been temporarily reassigned to Naval Air Facility Washington, D.C.
The current VR-1 squadron, called the Star Lifters, was established in 1997 and provides executive airlift to the Secretary of the Navy, Chief of Naval Operations, Commandant of the Marine Corps, the Vice Chiefs, Director of Naval Nuclear Propulsion, and the Office of Legislative Affairs, according to a Navy website.
The last commanding officer to be fired was Capt. Marcia “Kim” Lyons, commander of Naval Health Clinic New England, on April 6, after problems were identified in an annual command climate survey. The majority of those fired this year were relieved for misconduct and inappropriate behavior.
Last year, 23 commanding officers were relieved of their duties for varying levels of inappropriate conduct.
