Fests for foodies

Fun as it may be to hit all the wine and beer fests at this time of year, every once in a while it could be nice to give the liver a rest and head to a celebration that’s actually based on good eating instead. If you’re feeling in the mood for some memorable nibbles, here are a few food-related events both large and small throughout Europe you may wish to attend in autumn of 2010:

Newmarket, England: The East of England Festival of Food & Drink returns to the Newmarket Races’ Rowley Mile Sept. 30-Oct. 2 with an array of some 20 stands offering products from the local area, including oils and oysters and pestos and pies. Perhaps best of all, admission is free.

Five reasons to visit Paris this autumn

Some places out there, you visit once and that’s enough. Others you could return to a hundred times or more and still see something new. If you haven’t been to Paris in a while, maybe it’s time to revisit the City of Light. And if you want to add a special twist to your outing, the autumn of 2010 has plenty of reasons to plan a weekend getaway. Here are just a few:

On Saturday, Oct. 2, enjoy this year’s edition of Nuit Blanche, or White Night. On this night, dozens of venues associated with contemporary arts stay open until the early hours of the morning and welcome visitors to special performances and exhibitions.
