Executive Officer

Commander Gesele assumed the duties of executive officer Coast Guard Training Center Yorktown in July 2012.  As the Executive Officer, his primary role is to assist the Commanding Officer to ensure that the command mission and all related functions are carried out in a safe, efficient, and effective manner.  With a staff of over 900 active duty, civilian and contract personnel, Training Center Yorktown delivers training, assessment and doctrine support services to over 15,000 Coast Guard students annually. 

Prior to reporting to Yorktown, Commander Gesele served as the Facilities Engineer at the U. S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT.  His other staff tours include duty in the Office of Civil Engineering at Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington DC; Executive Officer of Civil Engineering Unit Honolulu, HI; Chief, Design & Construction Branch, Facilities Engineering Division Training Center Yorktown, Yorktown, VA; Chief, Facilities Maintenance Branch, Aviation Training Center, Mobile, AL, and as a deck watch officer aboard Coast Guard Cutter POLAR STAR.

The son of a retired Army Officer, Commander Gesele is a 1992 graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering.  He holds a Master of Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, and a Master of Business Administration from Regis University.  His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, three Coast Guard Commendation Medals, and the Coast Guard Achievement Medal.   Commander Gesele is a registered Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and was the Coast Guard’s 2011 Engineer of the Year.

Commander Gesele has two brothers in the Coast Guard, his twin brother, Commander Wade Gesele, currently Commanding Officer of Coast Guard Base Ketchikan, and a younger brother Commander Mike Gesele, a Coast Guard judge advocate at Coast Guard Seventh District in Miami, FL.
