Department of Education Senior Official to Participate in 100 Black Men of America's 26th Annual Conference

Jim Shelton, assistant deputy secretary for the Office of Innovation and Improvement, will participate in a panel discussion on education at the 100 Black Men of America’s 26th annual conference this Saturday, June 16, in Atlanta. The panel, “High Performing Schools: Closing the Opportunity Gap for Black Youth” will focus on evidence-based practices and advocacy efforts to ensure that underserved youth have access to high-performing schools that prepare them for post-secondary institutions. Shelton will discuss the opportunity that America has to make unprecedented progress in the battle for educational excellence and equity, and the role that African Americans can play in informing, shaping and driving education reform.

100 Black Men of America began in New York in 1963 with a group of successful black men from various walks of life. While membership has grown across the country, the goal of 100 Black Men remains the same: To implement programs designed to improve the quality of life for African Americans and to enhance educational and economic opportunities for youth, families and communities.
