Event Date 1: August 08, 2012 05:15 pm - 06:15 pm

U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan will host a press call today at 5:15 p.m. ET to discuss the Obama Administration’s approval of Nevada for flexibility from key provisions of No Child Left Behind in exchange for state-developed plans to prepare all students for college and career, focus aid on the neediest students, and support effective teaching and leadership.

With the addition of Nevada, 33 states and the District of Columbia have now been approved for waivers from NCLB. While well intentioned, the law’s rigid, top-down prescriptions for reform have proved burdensome for many states. More than 1 million additional students will be captured in the new state-designed accountability systems.

Members of the press who wish to join the call may dial 800-369-1852 .
