'Combatives' hit the home front

Looking for a fight?

The U.S. Army Europe’s Morale, Welfare and Recreation staff has scheduled its first Combatives championships Feb. 26-28 at Bamberg’s Freedom Fitness Center.

February Madness goes live

According to AFN-Europe’s Web site, www.afneurope.net, for the first time in the 60-year history of the DODDS-Europe basketball championship tournament, AFN will telecast the final games live on the Pentagon Channel and on the Internet.

The games are scheduled to begin at noon, Feb. 27, with the Division II girls’ championship showdown. The other five games – D-II boys, D-III girls, D-III boys. D-I girls and D-I boys, in that order – are scheduled to tip off every 90 minutes thereafter. The finale is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start. All games are to be played at the Benjamin Franklin Village Sports Arena in Mannheim, Germany.

Your chance to crow

The 44th annual Super Bowl kicks off at midnight Monday, Central European Time, and we’d like to read your views about which team will win and why.

Naturally, there are no prizes for getting it right coming from this quarter. Those rewards are between you and your bookie. But if you’re right, you’ll have bragging rights not just over your buddies who were less prescient than you, but also over the entire cyber world. Everyone on the Internet will see your pick and you’ll be able to tell them, “I told you so.”
