Jordan FlagThe United States-Jordan Free Trade Agreement was signed on October 24, 2000. It was America's third free trade agreement, and the first ever with an Arab state.  Under the terms of the agreement, which entered into force on December 17, 2001, the United States and Jordan agreed to phased tariff reductions culminating in the complete elimination of duties on nearly all products by 2010.

U.S.-Jordan Trade Facts

Jordan is currently our 77th largest goods trading partner with $2.5 billion in total (two way) goods trade during 2011. Goods exports totaled $1.5 billion; Goods imports totaled $1.1 billion. The U.S. goods trade surplus with Jordan was $394 million in 2011.

Exports

Jordan was the United States' 71st largest goods export market in 2011.

U.S. goods exports to Jordan in 2011 were $1.5 billion, up 23.9% ($280 million) from 2010, and up 365% from 2000. U.S. exports to Jordan are up 329% from 2001 (Pre-FTA).

The top export categories (2-digit HS) in 2011 were: Vehicles (cars) ($305 million), Cereal (wheat, rice, and corn) ($256 million), Machinery ($125 million), Arms and Ammunition ($83 million), and Aircraft ($75 million).

U.S. exports of agricultural products to Jordan totaled $390 million in 2011. Leading categories include: wheat ($171 million), rice ($62 million), and poultry meat ($40 million).

Imports

Jordan was the United States' 78th largest supplier of goods imports in 2011.

U.S. goods imports from Jordan totaled $1.1 billion in 2011, a 8.9% increase ($86 million) from 2010, and up 1,348% from 2000. U.S. imports from Jordan are up 363% from 2001 (Pre-FTA).

The five largest import categories in 2011 were: Knit Apparel ($590 million), Woven Apparel ($306 million), Precious Stones and Metal (jewelry) ($56 million), Special Other (returns) ($43 million), and Pharmaceutical Products ($29 million).

U.S. imports of agricultural products from Jordan totaled $6 million in 2011. 

Trade Balance

The U.S. goods trade surplus with Jordan was $394 million in 2011, up 96.8% ($194 million) from 2010.
