  • August 27, 2012 JVEF celebration to take place Aug. 30 at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-HickamPEARL HARBOR-HICKAM – The Joint Venture Education Forum (JVEF) will hold its 11th annual meeting celebration on Aug. 30, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Ford Island Conference Center on Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam (JBPHH). Gov. Abercrombie will serve as the guest speaker and address JVEF's theme, "Partnerships Shine ~ Ka Pilina ‘?linolino." Men and women of the armed forces, educators, and community members who have played a role in enhancing education in Hawaii public schools throughout the past year will be recognized.

     
  • July 21, 2012 Cause of Ford Island house fire determinedJOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM – A Federal Fire Dept. investigator determined the fire that broke out at a two-story residence on Ford Island Friday night was caused by a 7-year old boy playing with a lighter in a bedroom closet. The boy suffered minor burns to his arm and was treated on scene by FFD and City EMS. The boy’s parents and two older siblings were unharmed.

     
  • July 15, 2012 House fire at Pearl City PeninsulaJOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM – At approximately 3:30 a.m. on July 15, the Honolulu Fire Dept. responded to a house fire at Navy family housing on Pearl City Peninsula. The first floor and garage of one unit was heavily damaged; three adjoining units received smoke and water damage. No injuries were reported.

     
  • July 3, 2012 Navy responds to State Dept. of HealthJOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM – The Navy received a Notice of Violation from the State Department of Health (SDOH) in June 2012 for non compliance activities discovered during an inspection at Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Hawaii in August 2011. The Navy took immediate corrective action, provided refresher training, and increased internal reviews to ensure compliance. An unannounced follow-up visit by SDOH in February 2012 revealed no negative comments or report. The Navy is committed to protecting and preserving the environment.

     
  • June 26, 2012 Increased Aircraft Activity Expected During RIMPACResidents in the immediate vicinity of Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam may experience a temporary increase in aircraft noise due to the beginning of the Navy's biennial Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise, the world's largest international maritime exercise. U.S. Navy and Air Force aircraft, as well as aircraft from some of the other 21 participating nations, will begin arriving at Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam this week. The exercise is scheduled to begin June 29 and conclude Aug. 3.

  • June 12, 2012 Cause of brushfire is undeterminedJOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM – The cause of the brushfire that began on Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam (JBPHH) Lualualei Annex on June 4 has been classified as “undetermined” by Federal Fire Dept. (FFD) investigators. This classification is based on analysis of statements from all creditable witnesses; evidence collected and inspected at the scene, fire scene reconstruction and burn patterns.

  • May 10, 2012 Hawaii-Southern California Training and Testing Draft EIS/OEIS Available for Public review: U.S. Navy invites Public CommentPEARL HARBOR-HICKAM – In accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 and Executive Order 12114, Environmental Effects Abroad of Major Federal Actions, the U.S. Navy has prepared a Draft Environmental Impact Statement/Overseas Environmental Impact Statement (EIS/OEIS) to evaluate the potential environmental effects associated with military readiness training and research, development, test and evaluation activities (“training and testing”) conducted within the Hawaii-Southern California Training and Testing (HSTT) Study Area.

  • April 10, 2012 USS Crommelin to visit Hilo for Merrie Monarch FestivalJOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM - The Pearl Harbor-based guided missile frigate USS Crommelin (FFG-37) will visit Hilo April 12-15 to participate in the 49th annual Merrie Monarch Festival. Rear Admiral Fernandez “Frank” Ponds, Commander, Navy Region Hawaii and Naval Surface Group Middle Pacific, will also attend the festivities at the invitation of The Merrie Monarch Festival director.

Dewaruci began her cruise from Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia on January 14.
