  • THE 2011 JIMMY CARTER LIBRARY & GEORGIA GEOGRAPHIC ALLIANCE SUMMER (June 20-June 24, 2011) GEOGRAPHY INSTITUTE: The President’s Travels - The all-new Jimmy Carter Library & Museum (JCL) and the Georgia Geographic Alliance at Kennesaw State University (GGA) are happy to be sponsoring this standards-based institute, which will focus on developing geographic literacy and the process of teaching with documents. Participants will leave the institute with GPS-correlated classroom-ready geography lessons, as well as new ideas for teaching geography & social studies using primary sources.

  • NOW OPEN!!!!Mixing Metaphors: the Aesthetic, the Social and the Political in African American Art - Exhibit - Saturday, March 19, 2011 - Sunday, July 31, 2011 -Free with Paid Admission to the Museum; Children 16 and under are always FREE

    The Jimmy Carter Presidential Museum and Bank of America present this exhibit. Mixing Metaphors is composed of more than 90 paintings, prints, drawings, photographs, sculptures and mixed media works from the Bank of America collection. It draws its inspiration from the artists' visions and their use of technique to convey compelling stories. Body politics, race, class and gender are a few of the topics that surface in these works of art, which depict moments from the extraordinary to the mundane. more...

  • Stephanie Cooke - "In Mortal Hands" - Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 7:00pm – Discussion/Book Signing - Carter Presidential Library & Museum Theater – Free & Open to the Public

    She has covered the nuclear industry for almost 30 years, beginning her reporting career in 1977 at the Associated Press. In 1980 she moved to McGraw-Hill in New York as an associate editor for the industry newsletters Nucleonics Week, NuclearFuel and Inside N.R.C., later becoming chief editor. In 1984 she transferred to London and two years later covered the aftermath of the Chernobyl accident for Business Week and NucleonicsWeek. She is currently an editor of Uranium Intelligence Weekly, and a contributor to The Bulletin of Atomic Scientists. more...

     
  • Jerome Lawrence - "Big Picture Book of Art" - Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at 7:00pm - Discussion/Book Signing - Carter Presidential Library & Museum Theater - Free & Open to the Public

    Local Atlanta artist will discuss his art and his struggle with mental illness. His vibrant, cheerful painting titled "Tulips are People II," was featured on the Carter Center's 2008 holiday card. Lawrence was selected not only for his artistic skill, but also because his life of recovery with schizophrenia is a message of hope for others struggling with mental illness.
