Multilateral Environmental Agreements
USTR participates in U.S. policymaking regarding the implementation of various multilateral environmental agreements, to help ensure compatibility between the activities of these organizations and U.S. environment-related trade policy activities.
Examples include:
- Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora
- Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer
- Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal
- Convention on Biodiversity and the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety
- Rotterdam Convention on the Prior Informed Consent Procedure for Certain Hazardous Chemicals and Pesticides in International Trade
- Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants
USTR also participates in U.S. policymaking regarding activities related to the United Nations (UN) Environment Program and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
