CAC-T leading the way in training

Headline CAC-T's Lundy promoted to BG

Rank insignias in the officer corps can be a metaphor for the roles of Army officers throughout their careers, Fort Leavenworth's commanding general said Oct. 4. While honoring the promotion of Michael D. Lundy to brigadier general, Lt. Gen. David G. Perkins, commander of the Combined Arms Center and Fort Leavenworth, said few Army officers rise to the rank of general. When Col. Mike Lundy, deputy commander of Combined Arms Center for Training learned that his organization didn't have a top noncommissioned officer, he was determined to get one. "We're the organization in charge of training, and NCOs are a critical component to that," he said. Several U.S. Army posts will get a new tool that combines live, virtual and constructive (LVC) training if leaders at the National Simulation Center at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., are satisfied with the first field test. Dubbed the Integrated Training Environment (ITE), the new tool was put through its paces Sept. 10-28 by some 600 soldiers from the Black Jack Brigade at their home station of Fort Hood, Texas. More than 600 Soldiers participated in a training event as part of the field testing of the Army's Integrated Training Environment at Fort Hood this week. Members of the Combined Arms Center - Training have been the trainers and overseers while the Soldiers, members of the 2nd Black Jack Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, are the first to field test the equipment that integrates live, virtual and constructive training. Lt. Col. Shane Cipolla, Director of the TRADOC Project Office - Integrating Architecture, described how the system creates the ITE by linking: the Homestation Instrumentation Training System, a high-tech laser tag; the Aviation Combined Arms Tactical Trainer, a helicopter simulator; the Close Combat Tactical Trainer, a tank and infantry fighting vehicle simulator; and constructive simulations to create the ITE.
