NATO - Russia Statement
On the 22 July 1998 Permanent Joint Council Meeting
At Ambassadorial Level
The NATO-Russia Permanent Joint Council (PJC) at Ambassadorial level
met on Wednesday, 22 July 1998 at NATO Headquarters.
Ambassadors exchanged information and views on the situation in and
around Bosnia and Herzegovina. They focused on the continuation of
NATO-Russia cooperation in SFOR within the framework of the
multinational force in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the period following
the end of SFOR's current mandate in June. With regard to Kosovo,
discussion centred on the international community's response to the
crisis and the ongoing intense diplomatic efforts to find a peaceful
solution.
The representatives of NATO and Russia were informed about the
meeting of military representatives under the auspices of the PJC on
16 July.
Ambassadors exchanged views and information on measures to promote
cooperation, transparency and confidence between NATO and Russia in
broad terms.
They also reviewed progress with regard to NATO-Russia information
activities and discussed the way ahead in this area.
The next meeting of the Permanent Joint Council at the Ambassadorial
level is scheduled for 16 September 1998.
